Stainless steel chain – Their specifications

There are generally two types of stainless chains available. Type 304 and Type 316

Type 304 – These types of chains are rustproof and are made for ordinary and general applications. These do not require high powered features and they are generally not used in particularly enduring environment. Though, these chains are rustproof, it is advised, not to use them near salt water.

Type 316 – A rough, tremendously erosion resistant. These are ideal for different type of atmospheric surroundings and many eroding factors, usually stainless chains made of Type 316 are more resistant than type 304. The 316 type is considered as the classic ‘marine type stainless steel’, however, it does not provide any protection against hot sea water. If taken to sea sides, Type 316 shows corrosion on the surface, which appears as staining which is brown in color

Taking care of stainless chains

1. Stains should be attended as quickly as possible – Stains doesn’t catch stainless steel easily. But it is always a good idea to clean up any marks which may appear like stains. Though it is possible to remove stains after it has set in, it will be more time consuming.
2. If possible, soak it in soap water – When it comes to cleaning minor stain marks, apply a little amount of soapy water, however, if the marks have set in, you may have to soak it overnight.
3. Ammonia Solution – To fight tough stains, keep a solution of soapy ammonia handy.
